Founded in 1993, Macknally Ross Land Design has a wide range of project expertise. Principals, Lea Ann Macknally, Whit Macknally and team have demonstrated ability in Campus Planning, Streetscape Renovation, Park Master Planning, Master Tree Plans for municipalities, Greenway Trail Design, Historical Garden Preservation and Residential Garden Master Planning. Many of our projects have been recognized for design excellence. The Homewood Central Park, Homewood Shades Creek Greenway, Veteran's Memorial Park, and the Birmingham Zoo are all projects which have generated positive public and organizational response for livable spaces.

Recognized as leaders in our field in promoting sustainable landscapes, Macknally Ross Land Design has developed and maintained a reputation for consistently providing projects of the highest quality through an understanding of client needs, site conditions and environmental context. We have pursued environmentally holistic solutions to our designs in site work, stormwater management and planting design.

Our work on dechannelizing the creek at Homewood Central Park has lead to reduced flooding of the neighborhoods downstream, as well as created a unique amenity that citizens enjoy. The bioretention areas, or rain gardens, at St. Vincent's 119 Health and Wellness Facility treat and clean stormwater, before it flows to the Cahaba River. This was the first major parking lot in north Alabama to manage storm water in this way.

Macknally Ross Land Design's goal is to provide the highest level of professional design service by creating livable spaces that people enjoy and improving the environment, while being sensitive to site constraints, the client's needs, budget, maintenance requirements, and environmental preservation.
